What will the children do?
|
The following is an example of a typical programme that the children and the hosting family take part. On most week days the children are taken out for the day giving the hosts a chance to cary on with normal family life. However, transport to and from some venues will involve you. Many families share this task on a day by day basis and we may be able to help if you have a particular problem.
| Day 1 | Children arrive Manchester. Coach should arrive at St. Matthew‘s church car park at about 3.00 p.m. Telephone tree will operate, so you will receive an ETA when we are about half way to Derby. |
| Day 2 | Home visits. You will be told whether the Leader will call on you morning or afternoon. This is to help the children settle and alleviate any small problems, many of the children speak little or no English. |
| Day 3 | Wychnor Country Park. Please deliver children at 10.30 a.m. and collect at 4.00 p.m. Lunch will be provided. They will need swimming costumes and towels and (armbands). |
| Day 4 | Cinema Visit. Please drop the children at the UCI cinema in the Meteor Centre, Derby, at 10.15 a.m. and pick them up at 12.15 p.m. to visit local Fire station . |
| Day 5 - 7 | Weekend. Your chance to spend time with the children and your own family, relaxing or doing the things you want to do. |
| Day 8 | Visit to the dentist |
| Day 9 | Visit to the seaside. Please drop the children at St. Matthew‘s church car park at 9.30 a.m. and pick them up at 6.00 p.m. They will need a picnic and if they want to bathe, swim suits and towels. They are always tired when they get back from this day out. |
| Day 10 | Rest day |
| Day 11 | Snibston Discovery Park. Transport arranged - 9.30 a.m. pick up. Collect at 5.00 p.m. Picnic required. |
| Day 12 - 13 | Weekend. Your chance to spend time with the children and your own family, relaxing or doing the things you want to do, before saying your goodbyes before the children go to next family. |
| Day 14 | Changeover day. Please arrange this with the other family. This day can be tough on both you and the children. |
| Day 15 | Home visits. You will be told whether the Leader will call on you morning or afternoon |
| Day 16 | Chatsworth. Transport arranged - 9.30 a.m. pick up. Collect at 5.00 p.m. Picnic required. |
| Day 17 | Rest day |
| Day 18 | Twycross Zoo. Transport arranged - 9.30 a.m. pick up. Collect at 5.00 p.m. Picnic required. |
| Day 19 - 21 | Weekend. Your chance to spend time with the children and your own family, relaxing or doing the things you want to do. |
| Day 22 | Follow up visits to dentist |
| Day 23 | Coors Visitor‘s Centre (formerly Burton Brewery) and Chicago Rock Cafe. Please deliver children to Coors Visitors Centre at 10.30 a.m. and pick them up at the same place at 4.00 p.m. No picnic required. |
| Day 24 | Gulliver‘s Kingdom. Please deliver children at 10.30 a.m. and pick them up at 4.00 p.m. Picnic required. |
| Day 25 | Rest day |
| Day 26 | Final Party. Everyone invited. Directions and details will be issued in due course. If you hosted first week come see the children and bring the photographs, the children love this event and often perform folk songs and dances for us. |
| Day 27 | Final bits of packing - and farewells |
| Day 28 | Children will be picked up at St. Matthew‘s church car park at 7.30 a.m. Please remember they should not have more than 30 kilos of luggage - any excess will have to be left behind at the airport, which would be upsetting for the children. Please pack a picnic for the children as the airline food is either poor or non-existent, and the children may well have a long journey after they arrive in Minsk. |
